In these turbulent times, Patrick provides us with a model of public service and a public spirit. He is an inspiration to all of us, on both sides of the aisle.

And in this moving memoir, he shares the lesson of a life well lived: Hope for the best, and work for it. He is a talented politician and the public deserves nothing less.

A Reason to Believe

This public servant, history maker and first black Governor of Massachusetts humbly takes you on his journey from impoverished South-side Chicago to the Massachusetts Statehouse in such a humble tone, never failing to recognize and acknowledge the people on whose shoulders he stood. The lessons he learned are carefully etched on his heart and from the abundance of his heart, he cheers you on, gives you hope and makes you realize that you too can make it because he did. And his, was truly an improbable life.

So when he says he has high hopes for me, I cannot help but work hard to make him proud.

And I am just one of thousands he has cheered on, given hope and a reason to believe. It is a must read!!! This was a great read. It was informative, but you can tell a politian with an eye on another run wrote the book. Although a lot of personal info is in the book, I thought he may have held back in some views, but perhaps a book about his political life will be in a memoir in a few years. In the jaded world of politics, it is nice to know that men like this still exist and are still fighting for what is right. His rise to the top and his appreciation for those people who helped him along the way is inspiring.

Struggling to fit in at times in a world where he could have easily given up and accepted that he did not belong, Governor Patrick found "a reason to believe" in himself, and his story will make you believe in yourself, in each other and in our country.

See a Problem?

Irrespective of your politics, you will enjoy this book. Governor Deval Patrick has inspired us through the example of his life to aspire. Governor Deval Patrick exemplifies aspiration as the purveyor of civilization when the mind can visualize the future even if one is "broke" in material life but not devoid of imagination or the spirit to "climb the next mountain" no matter what the odds may be.

Governor Deval Patrick IS a reason to believe that there is a reason to aspire. The lessons from his "improbable" life are not only for Americans or citizens of this country USA but applicable to all who may have the wisdom to listen, the knowledge to heed and the incisive foresight to recognize the Nostradamus for the soul in between the lines.

  4. The message holds the same value whether you are from the mountains of Jebel Mara or the Tibetan Plateau, the Atacama Desert or the over-crowded metropolis of Calcutta. The strength of Governor Deval Patrick's memoir is rooted in his courage to share the humble truths and in his choice of his life partner, First Lady of Massachusetts, Diane Patrick.

Behind every good man there is a great woman and Governor Deval Patrick is not an exception. The First Lady's steely determination to stand tall with dignity is portrayed in her ability to express her humanity, insecurity and vulnerability while at McLean Hospital. Her statements will serve this nation as an enduring shrine, testament of faith and as an inspiration to overcome odds. Above all, a nation which can lead the world and a leader who can transform this vision into reality: Governor Deval Patrick and his book is a reminder that we have a tryst with destiny on that day in and again in with the man who will be the President.

I enjoyed reading about his life and I think he will go far in politics. It is always interesting to see who may be our leaders in the future.

He is an inspiration to all of us, on both sides of the aisle. And in this moving memoir, he shares the lesson of a life well lived: Hope for the best, and work for it. I realized quickly that he was a remarkable person—confident, compassionate, and a wonderful listener. He combined a youthful energy with a sense of wisdom and balance that belied his youth.

A Reason to Believe describes the unique set of experiences—both difficult and uplifting—that have forged this important and historic public servant.
